Dear Diary,

            I just love Mongibello. Living on the beach is a true blessing. I love everything about the town. My favorite part is probably the time I spent with Dickie. It is great to have him so close. We spend our days lounging on the beach, swimming, and sailing on his boat. We also eat almost every meal at his house. There is nothing better than sitting in the sun with Dickie and enjoying a martini. I cannot image a life better than this.

             There is one problem in my otherwise perfect life. A few days ago, a man named Tom Ripley arrived on the beach. He claimed to have known Dickie from the states. At first Dickie did not recognize him at all! After Tom insisted Dickie said he might remember him but I do not believe that for a second! There is something very off about Tom. He just walked up to us on the beach and is now staying in Dickie’s house. He seems to have no intention of leaving either. I find it strange that a man would come to a different country without any plans and just decide to stay at another man’s house. The situation is so odd!

            Tom and Dickie have been spending lots of time together too. A few days ago it was just us and our perfect life in Mongibello. Now Tom is around for all of our activities. He comes with us to the beach, swimming and wants to go on the boat! Those times are supposed to be about me!! They are even talking about going on vacation together. I just cannot image it is a good idea to travel with someone you just meet.

            As I’ve said, it is weird for a man to live with another man. The amount of time they are spending together is not natural. It is probably because Dickie is so polite. He would never hurt anyone’s feelings. Dickie claims Tom is just a little odd but I have a different theory. He must be gay, that is the only explanation for the situation. He is gay and in love with Dickie!! It’s not that I don’t like gay people because I do. I just wish that Dickie could see Tom for who he truly is. When I tried to tell Dickie this he basically ignored me.

          Most women would not put up with this. I will because I love Dickie. He might not realize it yet but he loves me too. I thought I was so close to Dickie admitting his love for me. Tom defiantly will slow down the plan. I am not too concerned though. What is meant to be will always work out in the end. I will deal with the Tom situation. I doubt he will be here long anyway. He probably has a life back in the states. So for now I will make nice but he better not do anything to mess with my relationship with Dickie. I am not too worried about it though. Dickie is so close to admitting he loves me.  There is not much Tom Ripley can do to change that!
